Gavin Thorud is a senior here at Clatskanie Middle/High School, and he is a former foreign exchange student who spent his junior year abroad in Gislev, Denmark. This is a series of questions I asked Gavin about his exchange year, please enjoy:
Question 1: How was week one in Denmark?
I actually don’t remember much from the first week. It took a lot out of me to adjust to my new surroundings, like school and the town I was staying in.
Question 2: What is your best memory from your exchange year?
The first week of school my class went on a field trip to Æbelø, which is an island that you can only get to by walking in knee deep water for 3 miles. It was a good opportunity for me to bond with my class, and the weather was perfect.
Question 3: What do you miss the most about Denmark?
I miss the freedom I had. There was a lot more public transportation, so I could travel around the country much easier.
Question 4: If you could go back to Denmark, would you?
It really depends on the day.
Question 5: What’s one thing you’d change about your exchange year if you could relive it?
Nothing, I think it was perfect.
Question 6: Would you say you’re fluent in Danish? Do you still study Danish?
I have a really basic understanding of danish, and I can hold conversation fairly well. I still study it from time to time so I don’t lose it completely.
