On November 01, our Speech and Debate Team traveled to Tillamook and competed in their first tournament. Although it was their first competition, they did very well, even in the nerve wracking setting with students from 10 other schools to contend against! The members that were able to attend and compete consisted of:
Charise Giberson: Competed in impromptu
Kaytee Brock: Competed in impromptu and radio commentary, awarded with 3rd place in radio commentary
Kerissa Engen: Competed in impromptu, finalist in impromptu
Rachel Christensen: Competed in impromptu
Malexa Fillman-Christensen: Competed in impromptu and Lincoln Douglas Value Debate, awarded the 1st place novice speaker in L.D. Debate
And finally, we cannot forget our amazing teacher and coach, Mrs. Sizemore, who made all of this possible!
The judges had many good to say about the contestants from CHS, but what did our fellow students say about their exciting trip and experiences there?
“I was so nervous, not knowing what to expect. But after the first rounds, I got the feel for it and got even more excited to compete and go for the throat! (That’s what Mrs. Sizemore told me to do, don’t worry.) “ -Malexa Fillman-Christensen
“Oh, I really enjoyed our first tournament and I feel as a speech and debate team, we did quite well for our first time. I also can’t wait for the next one. And oh yea, it was so much fun!!!” -Kaytee Brock
