A new school-based health center will be opening behind the locker rooms in late March or April.

Doctors Carol and Anna, who currently work at the Clatskanie Community Health Center, will be moving part-time to the new center. The goal of the new center will be to provide quality healthcare to students in a school setting, which will help to reduce the amount of absences due to doctors appointments.

“I'm excited to be able to go to the doctors without actually going to the doctors,” sophomore Katie Lefor stated.

CMHS is also giving students to opportunity to have a say in what the center is named. To share your input, you can text 1244 7708 and your name suggestion to the 37607. For more information, nurse Annie Kynsi, a school nurse.

CMHS welcomes new staff member Mr. John Hanrahan. Who is he you may ask? Well Mr. Hanrahan who is also nicknamed Mr. H is the new next step teacher! While here at CMHS hopes to accomplish many different goals, one goal being his students grow socially as well as function successfully in a general class over the next few years. What would make Mr. H want too work here? Well, he says he saw a unique opportunity too work at such a close knitted community, unlike what he is used too, with his hometown being Portland Oregon.

Mr. John Hanrahan graduated high school in 2002 at his local school being Putenm high! He then went off to Portland State to begin his career, where he then got his double major in Science and Psychology! He then graduated in 2006, ready to work.

Not only does Mr. H enjoy teaching in the next step class, but he enjoys a number of things. One of his hobbies include playing video games, his favorite being NBA 2k15. He also enjoys the great outdoors. Mr. Hanrahan not only enjoys video games and the great outdoors, but he is also a massive fan of the show Big Brother.

Now let’s take a moment to flash back on his youth hood, during this time Mr. Hanrahan played basketball, as well as choir where he sang his part as a bass 2 for the National Honor Choir! But wait he doesn't stop there, John Hanrahan was also the captain of the chess team.

I hope everyone here at CMHS gets too know Mr. John Hanrahan and make him feel welcomed. He sure has come a long way to teach here, and he is very excited to do so. So welcome Mr. H enjoy your stay!

By Hannah Aho

The first set of students of the month was recently announced at CMHS.

September’s students of the month were Jack Boothe and Nikki Grover from the 7th grade, Foster Evenson and Brandi Grover from the 8th grade, Jon Coe and McKenzie Hawkinson from the freshman class, Lukas Roubal and Gabby Sherman from the sophomore class, Miles Haas and Darcy Smith from the Junior class, and Ryan Froke and Brittany Abbot from the senior class.

“It feels nice to be rewarded for all of my hard work,” winner Gabby Sherman confessed.

Student of the month was made to recognize the student from each grade that are doing well inside and outside the classroom. Students are nominated by CMHS staff, and a list is compiled of all students who were nominated from each grade. The staff then votes on who they feel is most deserving.

Student’s of the month receive a personal pizza of their choice from Fultano’s, and at the end of the semester their names are put into a drawing to win additional prizes.
