Ms. Mckenzie Garlock is the new math teacher here at CMHS. She is a graduate of CMHS from five years ago, attended college at Eastern Oregon University and than returned to became a teacher at CMHS.
What inspired her to become a teacher? When she was in high school she would help out the kids in her class and also in college she was a tutor for kids. So with these experiences, she fell in love with helping and teaching her classmates new things and keep them from falling behind in class. When she was out of college she came here and helped out around with some of the teachers and that inspired her to be a teacher. The two teachers that helped her follow her dreams were Mr. Slavish and Mrs. Brewer. She looked up to them and wanted to do what they were doing. Those two teachers were her mentors.
Ms. Garlock also loves to coach after school. She coaches the girls soccer team and the girls basketball team. She loves to watch her team work together and think smart when there is a tough spot to be in and to know they will never give up no matter how hard it is to do something. She is now the mentor of her soccer team.
Some things that Ms. Mckenzie loves to do in her spare time are watch movies and read good books. One of her favorite movies is "Grease" and her favorite book is "The Girl On The Train". She would also be a good person to ask about good stories to read - she loves to read.
Ms. Garlock is just like us students as in that she is from Clatskanie. She was born and raised here, went to school at CMHS, than went to college to become a teacher. She understands what it is like to grow up in a small town with all of it's challenges.
Garlock's favorite animal are cats. Let's say she is having a bad day and you want to cheer her up, then show her a cute picture of a cat or bring a cat and let her hold and play with it. She likes dogs but she prefers cats. Also, if any cats go missing she is the first person to go ask.
She would like to teach for as long as possible and coach for as long as she can. Garlock loves to teach and coach so she is going to be doing that for as long as she can. When she is done she would like to quilt and do "old lady" stuff. When she retires she will make quilts and stuff for her family.
Ms. Garlock's mission is to see kids succeed in their class and not giving up on themselves and to graduate. It makes her day when she see a kid learn something new, get happy and confident in themselves and they just want to keep doing it over and over again. She loves to make new friends and relationships with staff and students. She loves to see all of our smiling faces in the morning and throughout the day.
