Everyone has a favorite movie that if they don’t watch it every few months a craving starts to arise to watch said movie. Well, to a lot of people that movie is the 2006 classic “She’s the Man”. This movie has something for everyone to enjoy, from cheesy or slightly sexual jokes, to drama between lovers/ team mates, to sports. If you haven’t gotten the luxury of hopping onto the bandwagon, here’s ten examples on why you should watch "She’s the Man".
10. The consistent awkwardness throughout.
9. Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes as the two leading Characters.
It’s Channing Tatum and Amanda Bynes, how much more do you need. They are amazing!
8. Modernized take on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night”
In Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as her presumably dead brother and takes on the name “Cesario” so she can work at Duke’s household. She ends up falling for Duke, but keeps it a secret as she helps deliver love notes to Duke’s love Lady Olivia. To her Dismay, Viola finds out that Lady Olivia actually has a crush on Cesario not Duke… Huh sounds oddly familiar.
7. The amazing montages.
Throughout the film we get to witness two montages, one of Viola’s (amusing) transformation into her twin brother Sebastian with the help of her friends, and a training montage with her and Duke on the soccer field. And like most movie montages, they were quite spectacular.
6. The quotes…… OH THE QUOTES
If there was one thing to take away from this film, it’d be the priceless quotes that could be pulled from the movie. Here, have a little taste.
"Toby: I need your advice man. I got lady troubles.
Viola: I'm here for you bro. I got a lifetime of knowledge.
Viola: No man... if you wanna kiss her... You go right ahead and you kiss her! I mean, knock yourself out! You just take her... then kiss her. Then kiss the crap out of her!
Viola: Anything. Ask me if I like... cheese.
Duke: [Laughing] Um, ok. Do you... like... cheese?
Viola: [Girl's voice] Why yes I do. My favourite's gouda.
These are just a few of them, how could you not want to hear more.
5. Be a lady
All of the debutante scenes remind me of myself. The way Viola reacts to her mom and all the ugly dresses that her mom picked out for her for the courting is just priceless. Also the way she pigs out at the luncheon and her mom tells her to be more ladylike so she just smiles as she does it is EVERYTHING.
4. Great life advice
The whole movie is about girls fighting for what they believe in no matter what they have to do to get it.
On top of that there’s tons of other great advice throughout but the main one is the one Duke says: "It's just like what Coach says before every game: Be not afraid of greatness, some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. I think our best chance to be great here today, is to have you play."
3. The sound design/ music
The music throughout is just great, the team behind it picked out the perfect songs for the scenes. Every time I hear one of the songs on the radio or on tv the scene that it’s from INSTANTLY starts playing in my head. You should listen to the soundtrack whether you end up watching the movie or not.
2. The Cheesy Comedy
It’s just the good old fashioned cheesy but effective comedy that everyone knows and loves
1. It’s Gouda
Get it? Cause it’s cheese and there’s a lot of cheese jokes in the movie? No….okay
When my eyes are closed I see “She’s the Man” for what it truly is which is AMAZING.
