"Where She Went" is the sequel to "If I Stay" both written by Gayle Forman.
It's been three years since the accident. Three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever. Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juiliard's rising star, and Adam is an LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status, and celebrity girlfriend.
Adams band is the biggest thing in music. His pain-filled angsty songs about his breakup with Mia have become major hits. Everyone wants to know the story behind the lyrics, but Adam refuses to tell anyone. Adam meets a reporter who has done her homework on him, his hometown, and Mia. He doesn't like how much she knows, and he ruins his interview, and leaves. Later he finds out Mia has a concert at Carnegie Hall that night. He goes to see her preform. It was some of her best playing. Adam finds out Mia has a tour the next day just like him. Later that night after they have spent time together Adam wants to know why she left him three years ago. Mia tells him she was mentally present the entire time she was in a coma. She heard every word he said to her. Every word on how he begged her to stay. He was the reason she had stayed. After that they go to miss apartment and he sees the old photos of Adam. She never stopped loving him, nor did he stop loving her. Adam calls his manager and tells him that this will be his last tour, he calls his girlfriend and breaks up with her. A while later during Adam’s last concert Mia is backstage watching. Adam comes back stage to sing the song to her signaling the end of his career and the beginning of their new relationship.
